A Hunters Safety Course will be held at the club on June 23rd, from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Those interested must register at http://www.pgc.pa.gov

A Conceal and Carry Seminar will be held at the club on June 16th. Cost of the seminar is $100, which a portion of the fee will benefit the club. The seminar will be conducted by Scott Robinson. Scott is a retired FBI agent, who is a Certified Firearms, Emergency Counter Terrorism Instructor. Anyone interested in attending can contact Scott at (570) 541-3494 or Scott@SRTactical.org.


Our Annual Trout Derby will be held on May 12th, starting at 9:00 AM and ending at noon. This is for kids 12 years and under. After the Derby, the pond will be open for youth under 16 to fish until the end of May. No Adults!! All bass must be released back into the pond if caught. This is an awesome event for the youth and it is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. We are seeking donations for the fish. Anyone wishing to donate may do so at a meeting or you can send a check in care of Mid Penn Sportsman Association c/o Fred Piermattei, 303 South Hill Drive, Middleburg, PA 17842. Please write Fish Donation on memo section of check, thank you.


There will be a general Work Party on March 24th, starting at 8:00 AM. Members are encouraged to attend. If possible please bring brush clearing tools, since property cleanup will be done. We will also be doing some bridge repair work to replace planks, etc…, if you attend and have tools suited for this, please bring them, thanks.


Pork sandwiches available before the March 12th Club meeting. Sandwiches will be ready around 6:30 PM. All members are welcome, so please come, have a sandwich and socialize.

There will be a meal available before the January 8th meeting starting at 6:30. It will be Wild Game Night. If you have a favorite recipe for anything you caught, shot, or ran over, please bring it. All members welcome.


There will be a meal available before the February 12th meeting starting at 6:30. It will be Highland Chili and corn bread. The meal will start at 6:30 and all members welcome and bring your stories.


Range Rules:
NO Alcohol on the ranges while shooting! Gongs will be allowed if you bring it with you and take it home with you. If more than one party is at the range, please refrain from shooting the Gong. NO exploding targets EVER!!! As always take your targets down when you leave. In addition, clothes pins are getting scarce. Stop shooting them off the orange backstop!


DUES REMINDER!!!
2018 membership fees are now due. Membership fees are $25. There are still 65 members not paid for 2017. Please look at your membership cards and if your card does not have 2017 on it, then you have not paid. If you are unsure, please contact Fred at 570.765.8108.
There is a 2-year rule in place where if a member falls behind 2 years without payment they are dropped from the membership. If they want to rejoin they must go through the normal process of all new members. Currently, there is a total of 46 members that are on the list to be dropped. For our club to be successful we need paid memberships.

Route 204 Road Cleanup – 25th year participation – May 8th @ 5:30 pm before the monthly club meeting. All help appreciated by the members.


Rules to follow at the trap range for the safety of all shooters.

All guns must have the action opened and contain no live or empty shells at any time, except while the shooter is on the firing line. A break open gun’s action may be closed when it is in a gun rack but it shall not contain a live or empty shell.

A contestant shall place a live shell in his/her gun only when on a post facing the traps. He/she may place only one (1) live shell in his/her gun at a time and must remove it or the empty shell(s) before moving from one post to another. In changing from one (1) post to another, the shooter shall not walk in front of the other competitors.


Trap Range ammunition allowed: Shot sizes ranging between #7 ½ and #9.  Shotshells are allowed a maximum payload weight of 1 1⁄8 oz of shot. Velocity may vary, but is limited based upon shot mass: 1,290 feet per second for 1 1⁄8 oz , 1,325 ft/s for 1 oz, and 1,350 ft/s for 7⁄8 oz. These are ATA rules and are published for the safety of all shooters.


Club is accepting donations for the Trout Derby to be held on May 13th from 9:00 to 12:00. The club stocks 200 plus trout every year for the youth.


Range Rule Change: Do Not Burn Garbage on Ranges!


June 17th is the date for our Traditional Archery Shoot. Mark it down! Always a good time!


Hunter’s Safety Course will be held at the club in June this year. Friday June 2nd 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday June 3rd 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. A lunch will be provided by the club. There is a registration CAP of 35 people this year. You must register at www.pgc.state.pa.us.


The clubs Annual Trout Derby for youth 12 years and younger will be on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00 to 12:00. The club stocks 200 plus trout every year for the youth. After that Saturday, youth 15 years of age and younger may fish the pond until the end of May.


Summer Trap will begin Monday, April 3rd at 6:00 PM and every Monday thereafter. Each round is $4 per 25 birds. Try to arrive between 6:00 – 6:30. Lots of fun! Come out & burn some powder!

It was discussed at the last meeting about trying to get a committee together to work on a Facebook Page for the Sportsman’s Club. If there are people with ideas and expertise in doing this, please come out to the January meeting.


We are in need of a new membership secretary. It’s not hard – track the dues, send some emails, help make the newsletter. It’s easy and fun. Plus you get to meet new people!


We will once again be waiving the membership initiation fee of $10.00 for the months of Jan., Feb., & March. During these 3 months the cost to join will only be $25.00. Tell your friends! Remember you must show up at a meeting before you can be voted on.
